Nipple History:
Hugely influended by the Butthole Surfers, Big Black, Naked Raygun, Scratch Acid and deconstructive pop that was coming out of Chicago's Touch-N-Go Tecords, combined with the West Coast's SST label bands such as The Minutemen, Black Flag, Descendents, The Meat Puppets and Minneapolis' Husker Du, Nipple was formed in 1992 by Dave X and Hippie Dan after their previous psychedelic punk band Kind Zen Temple broke up because their drummer British Dave disappeared into the wilderness and because Stone Temple Pilots and Temple of the Dog appeared on the scene, so the whole "temple" thing was left behind...Initially with Rasta Rick on drums but Rick stopped showing up for practice becuase he would rather hang out at Oceanwalk and be a Hollywood Beach thug. Ray Beers was hanging out with the band and he had the right attitude so he took the opportunity to learn drums by playing live with the band. Jeremy Germ was another fan of the band and was eventually asked to join as lead guitarist thus creating the lineup that played over 300 shows in 1994 and 1995. The band broke up when Hippie Dan got busted for posession and was locked up by the fucked up US legal system.
The band changed it's name to Public Execution and recruited Eric "Pogo" Simonon from AFX on bass and Fausto Figueredo the drummer from LOAD to saxophone and recorded their legendary surf/hardcore/punk 7" titled "It's your Public Execution" on Blue Vinyl that was released on Big Dick's Records in 1995 and was limited to 300 copies pressed at Dick Smith's in Lauderdale, most of which have slipped into oblivion, and will someday rival the SoFla band 'The Eat' original 7" as far as scarce punk rock artifacts from South Florida's early years of indie diy punk production.
The band struggled along for a while without a steady bass player. Mike Alen from the Kendall, FL based band Nobuhjest (and Secret Service) sat in on a few sessions, Tony Qualls from the Miami hardcore band LOAD recorded the Bob Marley cover "Every Little Thing" with the guys, and Eric B. formerly of Pontius Pilot fame even lent his bass playing on a few occasions when the band took a more surf/punk rock direction. Eventually Ray and Jeremy got in a fight over Ray's ex-girlfriend Alexis and the band eventually broke up forever in 1997. Unlike other bands, there will *never* be a Nipple reunion due to all the bad blood that flowed through the veins and all the grudges that still last today between ex-members. Plus, Jeremy is a total sellout working as a stockbroker in Atlanta and nobody knows Hippie Dan's whereabouts (probably behind some club smoking crack listening to the Grateful Dead).
